What is "the magicians?" It's a book series by Lev Grossman that's been recently adapted into a television series on Syfy.
Do I have to have seen or read it to understand this site? It'd be rad af if you did see it or read it but it's unnecessary as we have tried to make the site as simple as possible regarding information.
What kind of magic is used here? Here there aren't really wand requirements. Unlike Harry Potter the usual magic is done by hand, with a series of hand gestures and an incantation or several to make the desired results.
Are there limits? Offensive magic, known as "battle magic" is not really taught at Brakebills. While it's by no means forbidden in the world to use it's not allowed at the school. It's notoriously hard to master and often times the spells go wrong, hurting the user and people around them. Be careful children.
What about these "portals?" The portals, typically closed off to Earth, have been opened. They allow access to other worlds, but with them brings monsters of all kinds, as well as peaceful creatures of all kinds.
Creatures? Yes! Here we are allowing all kinds of magical folk, including talking animals, on site. While we do have a few pre-established species readily available, users are allowed and encouraged to develop and use lore of their own.
I want to make a God/Demon, can I? No. While we do appreciate the effort knowing you'd have a good series of checks and balances readily available, the God/Demon concept is a bit too OP for our site.
Whats a "discipline?" Disciplines are for Brakebills students only. They're basically an area of magic that the student specializes in, though it holds no actual importance since all students study the same thing. It's more tradition than anything. The disciplines are Natural Magic, Illusion, Knowledge, Physical, Psychic, and Healers.
