Despite being born in the ocean off the coast of Maine, she was bored. A selkie by birth she swam and flipped about in the waters, but she yearned for a life above land. One of six children she was the sickly one, born with a mysterious illness they had no name for. She couldn’t leave the water for years, so while her family lived in a home above the waves she was trapped, living with her mother in a small cove on the edge of their family home. Once she turned ten she was finally strong enough to walk on land, shedding her skin for the first time and walking on two unsteady legs like a newborn baby deer. [break][break] Finally able to take her to a doctor, the family was devastated to find out she had Lupus, an ailment she’d live with for the rest of her life. This wouldn’t deter her from wanting to live though, she wanted to take life and make it something she could be proud of. She hid her skin and home schooled herself, absorbing as much information as she could at once. [break][break] She was a smart cookie, managing to catch up and even surpass what grade she should have been in. Her interests took a different turn though, when her brain finally slowed down. She got hobbies, painted and read. She found witchcraft, kitchen magic that seemed to actually work around her. She had the ultimate green thumb, things just seemed to just grow and grow and grow around her. She was ecstatic, so ecstatic that she literally sparked from her fingertips. Magic was miraculous and she wasn’t unaware of it, but she never imagined a selkie could be a magician. Her family was astounded, wondered what would happen now.[break][break] What happened was Brakebills found her. She was sickly, she wasn’t the smartest cookie in the class, but just smart enough to get on the globe. She was invited to the exam and managed to pass after only forty minutes of sitting in the room. Her skin has stayed with her the entire time, tucked safely underneath her bed. She misses the ocean, the cold Maine air, but she doesn’t regret it a bit. [attr="class","bioheader"]personality. She can manipulate water between her magical blood and her selkie abilities and can even freeze and unfreeze it.
