Brakebills

Usually busy all times of the day the first floor is the main hub of the school. Housing the dining room and where the study rooms typically are located, students can be seen milling around between classes and meals, trying to cram for exams and tests and generally messing around otherwise.
The second floor is constantly busy, except for the dead of night. Classrooms and the library are located here, dotted with a near constant flow and ebb of activity. All teachers offices are located within their classrooms and labs are provided for those who wish to test out new spells or study in a more “practical” way. Library is open from 6am to 11pm.
The dorms are where the students reside during the school year. There are three towers in total, the girls tower, the boys tower, and a tower very recently added for those who do not fit in the typical gender binary. Students are to be in their dorms strictly by 11pm for curfew, and are not allowed in each others dorms for any reason, but that doesn’t stop students from trying to sneak about.
The location of each of the little “clubhouses” for each designation of specialty magic users, as well as a sprawling lawn and maze. The welters board is also located here, toward the edge of the grounds. The maze changes every year and hosts a pleasant series of moving topiary in the shapes of animals of various sizes.

Upstate New York

Where the hedge witches usually reside, the hedges take over a various amount of abandoned warehouses in the shadier part of town as their base of operations. Often shabbily refurbished these buildings house many an abandoned witch who didn’t make it into Brakebills or worse, got kicked out or simply those who pursued magic.
The center of Town is host to a myriad of shops and cafes that line the streets. Very bright and cheery with an old fashioned look about it, the streets are lined with vibrant lamps and colorful people. A constantly busy place even in the dead of night the town square is rather large for what it appears to be, with a vibrant fountain the very center of the small park that resides there.
Host to a number of dance clubs and bars the upstate New York nightlife is a vibrant if not slightly dangerous game. You can find just about anything here to suit your needs and desires, even if it isn’t entirely legal. There’s a few all magical bars and clubs in the areas not typically seen to the non-magical eye as well.
Downtown is a myriad of odds and ends for shops. A bit on the “hipper” side of things it’s host to a number of odd shops, including antique shops and tattoo parlors. Also host to the art museum and history museum as well as a museum of science, it’s known as the cultural and intellectual center of upstate New York.

Realms

Fillory is a magical land and the primary focus of the main book series “Fillory and Further” by Christopher Plover. It is populated by both speaking and non-speaking animals and has two Gods who rule over it, named Ember and Umber. This world is situated on a disc, and thus has an edge. On the other side of the disc is another magical land that borders Fillory, though not much is known about this land.
The world that borders Fillory, Labyrinthia is just as it appears, a giant labyrinth. It is ruled over by a large Faun who goes by many names, who is also nameless. The center is said to hold a crystal clear pool of the sweetest waters, which holds a vast kingdom beneath its surface filled with the greatest and most grotesque of fantasy creatures. The labyrinth appears to be made of stone, though nature and magic have taken over and grown deeply over its walls. It is said most of those who venture into the walls may never return.
A vast and dark wood said to be haunted by the souls of witches violently departed from the world. Rumor has it that those who spend the night never come out, or at least not with all their wits about them. It’s said there’s a stone house in the center of the forest, found only by those who are hunted by the ghosts of the past, in which a man haunted by a spirit sacrificed several children to the spirits that bewitched him. The wood is easy to get lost in, and surrounded by tall ancient trees hundreds of feet tall. The sky is nearly impossible to see, and it’s easy to get turned around...
A rather bleak and abandoned city, with not many friendly residents. A vast and nearly endless amount of fountains rule over the ghost town, portals to every world in existence and all universal possibilities. The world appears to be in a black and white filter, with no color to speak of slipping through the cracks. It’s very easy to get turned around here, but most fountains also contain chutes down to the expansive library below where every book ever made, and ever could be made, and would be made, is located.
